The “Tamatorisai,” also known as “Tama-seseri,” is a grand and solemn ceremony held every year at Hakozaki Shrine, one of Japan’s top three Hachiman Shrines, along with Iwashimizu in Kyoto and Usa in Oita. It is one of the three major festivals in Kyushu, known nationwide.
The exact origin is unclear, but it is believed to have started around 600 years ago during the Muromachi period.
