WeBase Hakata offers a beginner-friendly Kendo experience where you can learn the basics of one of Japan’s most iconic martial arts.

The experience takes place at Rakunokan Kendo Dojo, a traditional dojo located just outside central Fukuoka. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will learn Kendo etiquette, how to use a bamboo sword (shinai), and fundamental techniques in a welcoming environment.

Kendo is more than just a martial art—it embodies the spirit of Bushido and emphasizes respect, discipline, and self-improvement. This experience offers a unique opportunity to discover an important part of Japanese culture firsthand.

Program Details

Duration: Approximately 2 hours

The experience includes:

• Introduction to Kendo
• Learning Kendo etiquette
• Dressing in a Kendo uniform and armor
• Basic footwork and striking practice
• Practice wearing protective armor
• Commemorative photo session

All necessary equipment is provided, so you can join empty-handed.

Instructor

The program is led by Keisuke Morifuji, head instructor of Isshinkan Dojo.

Mr. Morifuji has practiced Kendo since the age of 10 and currently teaches approximately 70 children. He also has experience teaching Kendo in France, making his lessons enjoyable and accessible for international visitors and first-time participants.

Rental of Kendo uniform, hakama, and protective armor is included.

Rakunokan Kendo Dojo

Approximately 1 hour by public transportation from WeBase Hakata.

Summer Venue: Fukuoka Isshinkan Dojo (approximately 30 minutes from WeBase Hakata).
